US dairy farmers produced 8.3bn litres of milk for the month of May, which is the highest-ever level of production for the month of May. The US is on course for milk production to expand 1.4%, or by more than 1.3bn litres, for the full year of 2017.

Total beef sales in China grew by 4% last year to reach 5.9m tonnes. Of this, close to 580,000t, or 10% of the total market, was imported from exporters like Brazil and Uruguay. The imported share of the beef market in China is expected to double to 20% by 2020.

Extremely hot weather in France and the south of Europe is affecting crop development. As a result, grain analysts in Europe have downgraded hopes for this year’s French soft wheat harvest to a range of 36m or 37m tonnes.

The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) food safety authority has de-listed five meat processing plants in Brazil from supplying beef for export to the US market. The five processing plants belong to Brazil’s largest beef processor JBS.
