Argentina: September beef exports surge

Argentina exported close to 55,000t of chilled and frozen beef in September, over 60% higher than export volumes for the same month last year. This brings Argentinian beef exports for the first nine months of 2019 to 380,000t, 50% ahead of last year.

Australia – wheat production forecast slashed

Severe drought conditions in Eastern Australia are hurting wheat crops and likely to lead to a poor harvest this year. As a result of the drought, the International Grains Council (IGC) has slashed its forecast for Australian wheat production in 2019 from 19m tonnes to just 17m tonnes.

France – maize production hurt by summer heatwave

French maize production for 2019 is set to come in at just over 12m tonnes, down almost 2.5% on last year’s crop. This fall in production comes despite a 5% increase in the area planted in maize for 2019 and is due to the negative impact of the summer heatwave in France.

Mexico – dairy imports way behind 2018 levels

Mexican dairy imports for the first eight months of 2019 are well back on last year. For Jan-August, Mexican SMP imports are down 34% year on year to 135,000t, while cheese imports are down more than 50% below 36,000t.
