Russia – government seeks to limit wheat exports

The Russian government is seeking to limit grain exports from the country with the introduction of tariff quotas on exports above 20m tonnes.

The government is worried that the current high prices for exporting wheat will trigger a massive sell-off and leave no domestic grain.

China – November meat imports rocket

China imported almost 645,000t of meat for the month of November, which is up a massive 82% on the same month a year previous.

Of this, 230,000t was pork, which is up more than 150% on 2018 pigmeat import demand.

Brazil – record soya bean harvest anticipated

Brazil’s soya bean harvest for the 2019/20 season could reach a record 124m tonnes, according to grain market analysts.

The USDA has forecast Brazil’s soya bean harvest at 123m tonnes, while Brazil’s ministry for agriculture has pegged soya bean production at 122.2m tonnes.

US – wheat plantings fall to lowest in a century

According to the USDA’s latest world supply and demand report (WASDE), US grain farmers will plant less than 31m acres in winter wheat this year, which would be the lowest acreage planted in winter wheat in the US in over a century.
