EU – French and German milk production rose in February

German milk production for February increased 4.5% year-on-year to 2.5bn litres, while French milk production in February grew by more than 5% to 2bn litres. However, it’s important to note that these figures include an extra day in February, as 2020 is a leap year.

China – beef imports from Brazil up 92% in Q1

Chinese buyers imported 143,000t of Brazilian beef in the first quarter of 2020 (Jan-Mar), which is up a massive 92% on the same period last year. China imported almost 52,000t of Brazilian beef in March, which was a strong recovery after imports weakened to just 39,000t in February.

US – meat exports surge in February

US meat companies exported more than 273,000t of pork in February, which was up a massive 46% year-on-year. Much of this pork was destined for China. US beef exports for February are also up 18% year-on-year at 112,000t.

Brazil – soya bean production forecast at 102m tonnes

South American grain agency CONAB has raised its forecast for Brazilian soya bean production this year to a record 102m tonnes, which would be a 2% increase on last year’s soya harvest. Brazilian maize (corn) production is forecast at 101m tonnes.
