US – milk production surges ahead in 2020

US milk production is firmly back in growth mode in 2020. For March, US milk production was up 2.2%, or more than 180m litres, year on year at just over 8.4bn litres. This brings US milk supply for the first quarter of 2020 to 24.5bn litres, which is up 3%, or 700m litres, on last year.

Argentina – beef exports soar in March

Argentinian beef exports continue to record double-digit volume growth. For March, Argentina shipped almost 40,200t of beef to world markets, which was up 23% on last year. This brings Argentina’s beef exports for the first quarter of 2020 to 117,000t, which is up 18% on last year.

Australia – bumper wheat harvest forecast

A bumper wheat harvest is forecast in Australia for 2020 thanks to the arrival of favourable rains in the early months of this year. The USDA is now forecasting Australia to produce 23m tonnes of wheat this season, which would be a significant improvement on the 15m-tonne harvest last year.

UK – milk production falls in March

UK milk production continues to weaken. For March, milk collections from US dairy farms was down 2.4% year on year at 1.3bn litres. This brings UK milk supply for the first quarter of 2020 to 3.7bn litres, which is down more than 1% on the same period last year.
