Australia – milk production remains upbeat

Australian milk production rounded out the 2019/20 milking season, which ran from July 2019 to June 2020, in strong fashion. Australian milk production for June this year stood at 624m litres, which was up 4% on last year. Since February, Australian milk supply is up 5% to 8% each month.

Uruguay – beef exports fall in August

Beef exports from Uruguay fell sharply in August by 14% to just under 23,000t compared with the same month last year. The fall in exports was due to weaker demand from China. Uruguayan exports of frozen beef to China for August collapsed almost 60% year on year to less than 12,000t.

Ireland – milk production close to 1bn litres for July

Irish milk production for July stood at just under 1bn litres – a new record volume of milk for that month and up more than 4% on last year. This brings Irish milk production for the first seven months of 2020 to a cumulative 5.3bn litres, which up almost 4%, or 200m litres, on last year.

Canada – large wheat harvest expected

Grain analysts are forecasting a bumper wheat and barley harvest this year in Canada. The Canadian statistics office estimates Canada’s 2020 wheat harvest will be up 11% on last year to just under 36m tonnes, while barley production is forecast to rise 2% to just under 11m tonnes.
