An investment of over €150m has been earmarked for the construction and associated costs. When operational, it will enable GII to process a further 700m litres of milk on top of the 1.6bn litres it already processes.

GII was set up last year following the de-merger of the dairy processing division from Glanbia plc.

It is jointly owned by Glanbia Co-op and Glanbia plc on a 60:40 basis respectively

The new plant will employ an additional 76 people when open. GII currently employs 500 staff and export dairy products and ingredients to over 50 countries worldwide.
