Film

The Jungle Bunch

15 September: The Jungle Bunch’s lively characters are making the leap from the small screen to the big screen in this much anticipated animated movie. Already a popular television series, The Jungle Bunch focuses on main character Maurice, one of a group of safari animals who tries to keep order in the jungle. Maurice is different to his friends, however: he is actually a penguin who believes he is a tiger. The film is directed by David Alaux and features the voices of Paul Borne, Philippe Bozo, Pascal Casanova and Emmanuel Curtil.

Comedy

Tommy Tiernan

14-24 September: One of Ireland’s most popular comedians, Tommy Tiernan brings his Under the Influence show to Vicar Street in Dublin for six nights in September. Tommy is well known for not taking anything seriously in his performances, with the political and personal all on the agenda – and the only goal of the evening being laughter and plenty of it. The Meath funny man has spent many years touring with his stand-up comedy shows and at the start of this year began presenting his own television show, where he interviews guests without any prior knowledge of who they will be. Tickets start at €35. For a full list of dates and booking, see www.ticketmaster.ie.

Theatre

Fadó Fadó

14-21 September: Fadó Fadó runs at Tralee’s Siamsa Tire Theatre and Arts Centre from 14 September to 21 September and tells a rural family’s story of joy and sorrow in Ireland a long time ago. With lively singing, music and dancing, the performance moves from the bog to a harvest festival and a hearth-lit kitchen. In Fadó Fadó the National Folk Theatre presents an authentic representation of Irish traditional music, song and dance, where all on stage will have trained with the company since they were children. Tickets start at €27.50. For more booking information, see www.siamsatire.ie.

The Whistling Girl

16 September: The duo of singer-songwriter Honor Heffernan and composer Trevor Knight perform their new cabaret/speakeasy-style show The Whistling Girl at the Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on Saturday 16 September. With this show Trevor has transformed the poems of Dorothy Parker into songs that are uniquely interpreted by Honor. In this production, Dorothy Parker’s poetry and prose will be opened up to a wide audience through new music that will breathe life into the work of this American literary icon. For booking, see www.birrtheatre.com or call the box office on (057) 912 2911.

Music

Crystal Swing

15 September: Ireland’s favourite family band, Crystal Swing is set to have you singing and dancing the night away at their upcoming gig in the Gleneagle Ballroom at the INEC Killarney on 15 September. Known for their trademark high-energy performances, this mother, son and daughter trio rose to fame in 2010 after their video He drinks Tequila was posted on YouTube. Since then the band has performed extensively, both nationally and internationally, including appearances on The Late Late Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ticket prices start at €10.
