A buzzing salesroom for both flagship Goresbridge sales – the Go For Gold eventers sale and the Supreme Sale of Showjumpers – returned almost €2.5m for Irish-bred and Irish-produced horses last week.

Many horses were sold to America and others to Canada, but there were also very active buyers on the home front as well as Britain and Europe.

A new record price of €160,000 was set at the Go For Gold sale, when Glenpatrick Stables’ Cornascriebe Glenpatrick (by Womanizer) was bought by British eventing enthusiast Ellie Guy. She also paid €27,000 for Brian Flynn and Meabh Bolger’s Rehy MBF, a four-year-old by Rehy High Society.

The sale-topping show jumper was Nickoletta E, the five-star Grand Prix grey mare owned by Cameron and Carl Hanley, who was bought for €460,000 by Michael Kearins.

By Nintender (KWPN) out of Lady Capriola, she was produced by the Hanleys from the age of six and placed in the 1.50m JLT Dublin Stakes at the RDS in July.

The next highest price was the €270,000 paid for Lanaken gold medal six-year-old winner Killossery Kaiden snapped up by American Adrienne Dixon, who is based with Greg Broderick’s Ballypatrick Stables. The horse is by Lux Z (HANN) out of Killossery Kruisette (ISH) by Cruising and was ridden to Lanaken gold by Ger O’Neill on behalf of owners John Kearney and Hugh Martin of KM Sport Horses.

Dixon also paid €130,000 for J’Adore Flamenco, a four-year-old grey gelding out of Conafino Z by Corofino, bought by Broderick and Twomey. Canadian owner Lee Kruger, who currently owns Broderick’s Rio ride MHS Going Global (ISH), paid €80,000 for Mise Le Meas, campaigned well by John Floody.

Kildare show jumper Nicola FitzGibbon paid €100,000 for Kieran Kennedy’s Focus Vendi KBS (ISH), a six-year-old by Ard Vivendi.

Thanking all who supported the sales, Goresbridge auctioneer Martin Donohoe said afterwards: “There was a very lively buzz both nights of the sales. Although the Supreme Sale is only in its infancy, it has a huge future in front of it.

It was no mean feat to get the top price of €460,000. And For the Go For Gold sale, €160,000 is a whopping price for a six-year-old eventer.”

The 2016 Supreme Sale sold 16 out of the 32 lots catalogued for a turnover of €1,356,500, while the 2016 Go For Gold Sale sold 51 horses out of 69 catalogued for a turnover of €1,049,250.
