Big Tom McBride and his wife Rose were the star attraction at the Castleblayney Agricultural Show on the August bank holiday Monday. Tom and Rose were taken by horse-drawn carriage through the streets of Castleblayney to the show grounds, where they were accorded a wonderful reception.

Jolene is the new single from Lorraine McDonald and The Conquerors. The song is securing plenty of airplay around the country. This is without a doubt Lorraine’s best ever release and she does a superb job on the Dolly Parton classic.

The death has taken place of Sid Aughey from Mullingar. Sid was a former member of the famous Drifters Showband, fronted by Joe Dolan, and was drummer with them for many years. Sid is survived by his wife Breda, daughter Dolores, sons Noel, John and David, brother Tommy, sister Lily (Gilleran), and grandchildren.

Mick Flavin celebrated 27 years on the country circuit with a gala night in the Longford Arms Hotel last week. James and Orlaith Reynolds made the night extra special with the presentation of a special cake to mark the occasion and Mick’s birthday.

Condolences are tendered to Mayo singer Gerry Carney on the death of his brother Paul. The Carney family reside in Bekan, Co Mayo.
