A condition orange, high fire risk warning has been issued by the Department of Agriculture.

Ongoing drought conditions have made forest and shrub areas susceptible to wildfires.

Fire brigades across the country have been battling wildfires, receiving over 400 calls in the last month.

Previous to this, the highest level condition red fire warning had been in place, with frequent wildfire breakouts.

Many farmers have also had to contend with increased risk of machinery going on fire in the unprecedented heat.

A fire recently broke out on a farmyard in Limerick, which is believed to have been started by the combustion of a tractor parked in the yard, which then spread to a nearby hay barn.

The Department has warned the public not to light fires in forest areas and to report any wildfires to fire services immediately.
