The IFA is calling on the Department of Agriculture to drop the 5% herd reduction requirement from the BEAM scheme.

IFA national livestock chair Brendan Golden pointed out that with traditional mart trading stalled, many farmers will have trouble shifting stock by the time the 1 July deadline comes for herd reduction.

He said the IFA has put a case to the Department to have the stipulation relaxed at Brussels level.
