A new soil analysis pilot project has been launched under the Internet of Things (IoT), an IFA-led programme.

The project is a type of database that involves input from farmers on a continuing basis to help record and analyse soils, including deficiencies in soil, grass growth rates and soil pH. The project is in partnership with Vodafone and Remote Signals.

All farmers can read the results of the recordings on their smartphones and use the information to make decisions on their own farms, to increase efficiency and lower costs and emissions.

“This project feeds into the area of more efficient farming,” said IFA president Joe Healy.
