ANC review

IFA rural development chair Joe Brady said sufficient flexibilities are available to ensure areas designated as ANC can be fully protected in the upcoming review. ‘‘Minister Creed must give assurances to farmers that they will not lose out in the upcoming ANC review,’’ Brady said. The payment increases arising out of the €25m additional allocation for this year’s scheme will be made in September.

Tullamore Show

Visit the IFA stand at the Tullamore Show and FBD National Livestock Show. Ireland’s largest one-day agricultural show takes place this Sunday 12 August. County officers and chairs will be at the stand and you could be in with a chance to win a two-night stay in any hotel from the Original Irish Hotels group.

Support from retailers

IFA president Joe Healy said the small amounts of rain recently had done little to alleviate the stresses on farmers. He said retailers had an important part to play in helping farmers to cope with this extraordinarily difficult year. “We now urge all other retailers to extend the approach taken by Musgraves on field vegetables to extend it to include other producers such as farmers producing fresh milk,’’ he said.
