TAMS

IFA rural development chair Joe Brady has criticised the delay in TAMS grants for farmers who applied in the last tranche of the scheme which closed in early April. The IFA rural development chair said that many of the applications are for feed bins for drystock farmers, which were introduced for the first time for that sector earlier this year.

Milk prices

IFA national dairy committee chair Tom Phelan said that farmers are disappointed with co-ops merely holding their May milk price. He added that farmers were particularly aggrieved to see some co-ops (Glanbia and Kerry, so far this month) continue to hijack the higher constituents farmers achieve through hard work to inflate the co-op’s announced price.

Sustainability

The IFA has requested a meeting with Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to progress proposals for the introduction of a sustainability development programme, as part of the IFA’s submission to the early midterm review of the nitrates derogation.
