What is it?

It is a 12-month business innovation programme at University College Cork (UCC), that nurtures, develops and strengthens entrepreneurial potential.

The programme allows recent graduates to explore their business idea which should have potential for economic, environmental, or social impact.

Who should apply?

IGNITE is open to recent graduates with an ordinary bachelor degree, honours bachelor degree, master’s degree, doctoral degree, higher diploma or post-doctoral diploma (NFQ level 7, 8, 9 or 10 qualification) in any discipline from any third-level institution.

It is expected that most applicants will graduate in the year in which they begin the programme.

In certain cases, applicants may have graduated in the immediate previous years and either:

  • Continued in postdoctoral research.
  • Started developing the business on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Engaged in relevant work experience.

    What to expect?

    Those who are successfully accepted on to the programme can expect access to early seed funding, access to work space and mentorship from some of Ireland’s most successful business people such as Mary Byrne, president and CEO of Statistical Solutions Ltd; Dan Byrne, co-founder and chair of Lincor Inc; and Mark Hurley, country manager UK/Ireland at bioscience company Chr Hansen A/S. Candidates will also harness and develop their business skills, attend workshops and seminars, increase their network and of course have the support of your fellow programme attendees.

    IGNITE Awards and Showcase

    The awards and showcase evenings give candidates the chance to shine. As well as awards for best business, best business plan and best pitch, candidates get the opportunity to showcase their product and journey with the IGNITE programme.

    The event has been held online the past couple of years but it gives recent candidates the opportunity to pitch their products and an introduction to the new candidates enrolled on the programme.
