Trade was very strong, with factory agents and butchers very anxious for all fleshed lots. This translated into an exceptional clearance of 100% on the day.

In terms of prices and the trade, it was said to be up, with sellers going home happy. Lighter hoggets from 42kg to 44kg sold from €96 to €102, with the higher prices paid for better-quality types and those carrying more flesh.

Hoggets from 44kg to 48kg sold mainly from €106 to €118 or from €2.30/kg to €2.45/kg.

Heavier hoggets from 48kg to 52kg sold from €114 to €121, with the higher prices paid for well-conformed and well-fleshed types. Heavy hoggets from 53kg and upwards sold from €118 to €123/head, with the highest prices again paid for the heavier, better-fleshed types.

There was an entry of about 50 cull ewes also and these were met with strong demand. The majority of those on offer were better-quality heavy types suitable for a short keep or straight to slaughter. Prices of these ranged from €96 to €130, with the majority selling from €114 to €120/head. Commission rates are €1.30 to the buyer and €2 to the seller.
