In-calf Limousin and Simmental heifers sold to a top price of £2,000 at a special sale of 65 head for Roland Hadden, Dungannon at Markethill Mart last week.

Across the sale, prices averaged just shy of £1,650, up from an average of £1,530 for a similar sale by the same vendor in October. Just four lots went unsold.

Topping the sale was a first calved Limousin with a heifer calf at foot, which made £2,150.

Two further heifer and calf outfits sold for £1,900 and £1,800 respectively. Other stand-out prices saw springing heifers making £1,900 and £1,920, with the main run of animals making £1,600 to £1,700. The lowest priced heifer sold for £1,380.

All heifers were in-calf to Limousin stock bulls, vaccinated for BVD, Lepto, IBR and set to calve during February.

Breeding sale

On Monday evening, Markethill Mart held a special sale of bulling heifers for A & O Carragher, Cullyhanna with 70 lots entered.

Prices peaked at £1,850 with a good run of animals over £1,600. Prices averaged close on £1,260.
