Irish beef prices are lagging behind that of our main export markets in the UK and EU.

Prices have stagnated in Ireland, while prices have increased elsewhere. The current base price for steers is €3.60/kg, with €0.05/kg extra being paid by some plants for heifers.

Last week’s kill rose by 656 head to 35,034, with cows making up most of the increase. Cows are in good demand, with factories eager for supplies. Good R grade cows are making as much as €3.30/kg. Live exports to NI continue to perform strongly, with 5,742 cattle exported to NI in August compared with 1,690 head exported in August 2019.
