Teams of farmers from Ireland, the UK and further afield have completed a charity fundraising raising effort which will see £45,438 go to rural help and mental health charities.

The challenge saw 1,200 participants clock up 64,785 miles in total.

The initiative coincided with in October Ag Mental Health Week. The mission was for each team to clock up 1,000 miles by the end of January. Each participant paid a £20 joining fee.

Team Ireland captain and Cork dairy farmer Peter Hynes was recognised as the most improved runner.

The #RUN1000 Just Giving pages will remain open to donations until the end of February.
