The publication aims to highlight the importance of agriculture and the agri-food industry to a much wider audience.

The bulletin, which will be published on a quarterly basis, is targeted at readers who aren’t actively involved in farming or the agri-food industry.

Reaching policy makers who have an impact on the agricultural sector is a key aspect of the publication.

“There is a huge professional and political class that are key influencers on government who have the most superficial knowledge and interest in agriculture and its importance to the economy,” explained Phelim O’Neill, who edits the publication along with Eoin Lowry.

Policy-makers

He also said: “We have drawn on the extensive knowledge of colleagues within the Irish Farmers Journal team to provide sector updates and use external contributors to provide short sharp briefs on the state of the industry and highlight wider policy issues”.

Although launched in hard copy, this will primarily be an electronic publication distributed to banks, Government officials and professionals and who typically won’t be readers of the Irish Farmers Journal.

However, they are key opinion formers and policy-makers. It is therefore very much in the interests of the industry that they are informed on the importance of agriculture and the economy; this publication intended to do this.
