Irish pony team member Mikey J Pender from Castledermott, Co Kildare, confirmed his highly rated status by winning the Millstreet 148 Pony Grand Prix. This class is always a competitive affair, and this year’s 148cm showpiece was no different.

Just five made it through to the jump-off over Mark MacGowan’s 1.30m course last Sunday morning.

Pathfinder Conor McMahon and Lady Capuley set a good target of 33.81, but this was immediately bettered by Pender and Cull Bán Mistress, who posted 32.39. Four faults at the oxer number eight fence ruled Hannah O’Shea and Cinderella Girl out of the race for the red rosette.

Ciarán Nallon had a very busy Millstreet, featuring prominently in all the major classes. This time, his hopes rested on Sligo Little James. A brisk, but safer, ride delivered the clear round in 38.41. Last to go, Pender and Zirima had already secured the title, but he duly delivered another clear round to take the runner-up spot as well.
