Following considerable delays, the new DOW insecticide has received registration from the Irish authorities.

The registration is for the brand names CLOSER™ and TRANSFORM™, which contain a new family of insecticide called Isoclast ™ active.

Isoclast belongs to a new chemical family of insecticides called the sulfoximines and thus it provides a very useful control tool in the face of resistance fears in other chemical classes.

It can be used on a large number of crops, including barley, wheat, oats, potatoes and brassicas.

However, it is not yet an option for barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) prevention as its earliest timing has been set at GS39, which is too late for that use.

However, its presence in the market will help take some of the pressure off of other actives.
