Prior to Purchase

  • Educate yourself on how to rear the puppy prior to purchase.
  • Consult with professionals on requirements for keeping a dog.
  • Ensure you have all the necessary purchases, such as food, water dishes, a lead etc.
  • When purchasing

  • Ensure the puppy is the right age (eight weeks) when purchasing.
  • Ensure it is microchipped, vaccinated, wormed etc.
  • Try and research the breeder to ensure the puppy is reared in a healthy environment.
  • Ask to see the puppy’s sire and especially the dam. Be happy with their temperament.
  • Ask to see the conditions the puppy is reared in.
  • You can do personal health checks such as checking eyes, elbows, patella etc.
  • If you meet resistance from the seller when requiring extra information, this may be a concern.
  • After purchase

  • Check your puppy into the vet within 3648 hours. If the puppy is unhealthy, being it back to breeder.
  • Designate a place for your puppy to eat and sleep.
  • Socialise with your puppy and make sure it socialises with other dogs.

  • If you do not wish to have puppies, consider whether you want to neuter your dog.
