JBS USA, a subsidiary of the world’s largest meat processor JBS which is based in Brazil, has purchased prepared and convenience foods company Plumrose USA for a fee of $230m.

Plumrose is a US-based business belonging to the world’s largest pork exporter, Danish Crown. It produces prepared foods including bacon, hams, sliced deli meats and cooked ribs. It employs 1,250 people.

Plumrose USA has an estimated annual net revenue of $500m, backed by a portfolio of well-recognized US brands including Dak and Danola, which are present in both the food service and food retail categories in the US.

The deal includes the takeover of five Plumrose prepared food facilities and two distribution centres in Indiana and Mississippi.

JBS has said the acquisition of Plumrose USA would “enhance the company’s presence in the prepared and convenience foods business in the US, particularly in the meat-based snacks category”.

JBS USA is a leading processor of beef, pork and lamb in the US. The subsidiary represents the North American arm of Brazilian-based JBS SA, the world’s leading animal protein processor with more than 200,000 employees worldwide operating more than 300 production units.
