Michael Collins is machinery editor at the Irish Farmers Journal. From a mixed farm in east Cork, Michael graduated from UCD with a BAgrSc in 2002. After completing his degree, he started his career in the machinery industry with John Deere Werke Mannheim Germany in the Marketing Department. After this he worked for Amazone and Krone in the UK as territory sales manager and then spent some time travelling around the world working on various farms. Laterally he has worked as sales manager, Ireland, for Ecolab in the dairy hygiene industry.
Strip-tillage is a relatively new method of establishing crops in Ireland. One contractor in Tipperary is gaining ground with this one-man system. Michael Collins reports.
