A guide to special and upcoming sales in the marts in the coming weeks around the country.
A continued strong beef demand, and in particular a strong trade for manufacturing beef, has placed a firm floor under the price of cull cows in marts.
Last Friday’s dairy sale at Fermoy Mart saw 130 heifers and cows on offer. The trade was up by about €300/head on last year for better quality heifers with the average price paid up about €100/head.
Saturday’s sale at Balla Mart saw a noticeably quieter yard, with a smaller entry of stock on offer as the sales start to wind down for Christmas.
