Nathan Tuffy is the Western Livestock Specialist with the Farmers Journal. He has been working as a Livestock Specialist with the Journal since December 2010 and is responsible for Western news, technical features along with MartWatch reports and analysis. He previously worked as a private Agricultural Consultant, as a Good Farming Practice Advisor for Teagasc and worked on the Small Holders Programme for Sligo LEADER Partnership. He graduated from University College Dublin in 2006 with an Honours Degree in Animal Science. Throughout his time studying he spent weekends and summer holidays working on and mixed enterprise organic farm. He also has a strong dairy interest and is involved in the family farm in Co. Sligo which operates a dairy and beef enterprise.

Saturday’s sale at Balla Mart saw a noticeably quieter yard, with a smaller entry of stock on offer as the sales start to wind down for Christmas.
