A load of 1,000 maize silage bales from the UK has been sourced by Kerry Group to help combat ongoing fodder shortages in the country, according to a spokesman for the organisation.

The 1t bales are understood to be very high quality at 33% dry matter. They were sourced last Friday with delivery expected this week.

This fodder import is in addition to 2,000 large hay bales that were imported from the UK and distributed to agribusiness stores in Kerry, Clare and Limerick.

Kerry Group also sourced 1,000 bales of hay in Ireland for distribution through its stores.

The spokesperson stated that there had been a “strong demand” for bales with rationing initially introduced to ensure that each farmer received a fair share of fodder".
