Farmer’s tracker

Gardaí arrested the man who is in his mid-twenties following a search on a premises in Carbury on Monday 1 February. Five stolen quads were recovered during this search.

Ballitore suckler and tillage farmer Carmel Lawlor reported her €12,000 quad stolen on 27 January.

A tracker installed on Lawlor’s two-year-old quad assisted gardaí in locating the five stolen quads and making the arrest.

“Credit where credit’s due. The gardaí were super in this situation. They took control of the tracker and recovered the quads in a professional manner,” Lawlor told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“We can be quick to condemn them when rural crime spins out of control but in this instance I have to take my hat off to them.”

Owners have been identified for three out of the five stolen quads.

Gardaí in Kildare are seeking to identify the owners of the remaining quads.

Any enquiries can be directed to Garda Pat Mulcahy at Athy Garda Station on 059 863 1669.
