Mack has a long and distinguished history with the Aberdeen Angus breed in Ireland, having completed several terms on council, as well as being actively involved in the organisation and planning of some of the biggest Aberdeen-Angus events each year, such as the Ploughing and the all-Ireland Aberdeen Angus finals.

Mack is also owner of the pedigree Broomstreet Aberdeen Angus herd, which was founded in 1989 and currently stands at eight cows and followers. The herd won the supreme Aberdeen Angus championship at the RDS Spring Show in 1992. Red-carrier bloodlines were introduced to the herd in recent times, which are proving to popular, particularly to the export market.

Along with his son Alan, Mack also operates the very successful and well-known wood, timber and fencing business Crowe’s Sawmills, which specialises in fencing, gates, doors, decking and other high-end timber products.

Mack said: “I would like to sincerely thank all council members for the honour of being elected president of the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association and I am looking forward to building on the successes of the World Angus Forum which visited Ireland last summer.

“I am committed to driving the rollout of DNA testing for all pedigree Aberdeen Angus calves in 2018. This will be of huge benefit to both breeders and purchasers of pedigree Aberdeen Angus stock each season and will also help serve to protect the integrity and reliability of our herd book.”

Further appointments to the 2018 team were ratified at the AGM, with John McEnroe of the Liss Aberdeen Angus herd taking on the role of vice-president and Eustace Burke of the Clontead Aberdeen Angus herd being elected to the position of junior vice-president of the association.
