DEAR SIR:

Easy target

All of a sudden the government cares about climate change and it is too easy to hit the suckler farmers, often smaller farms and often in under-privileged areas of Ireland. But, at the same time, allowing beef from Brazil to be imported where rain forest is cut down at an alarming scale and inspections of farms are pre-announced - what a joke. There would be big polluters to tackle first: we still produce electricity with coal and, even worse, peat. The public transport system in Ireland is spurious and trains and buses still run on diesel. Polluting with cars is huge and people stand in traffic jams around bigger cities day in, day out. Taxes on flying are non-existent either. These are just a few of the problems that need addressing first; but no - it is easy to hit the weakest link. Congratulations.
