DEAR SIR

One of the first pages I go to in the Irish Farmers Journal each week is the letters page. I find the letters raise some very valid points but I’m a bit disappointed with you and your journalists that you don’t take up some of the points and answer them.

I am thinking of one such letter recently from the farmer in his 40s, with his young family and his plans to expand and being frustrated by the fact that he qualified for a 40% grant while his neighbour, a few years younger, could get a 60% grant.

He asked a very simple question – “was this discrimination?” and deserved an answer. Three sources come to mind – the Equality Authority, the Minister for Equality and the Minister for Agriculture.

I’m very disappointed with your lack of feedback. Journalists are supposed to ask the hard questions and get answers.
