Just four of 21 appeals contesting rejected applications to the 2017 crop loss compensation scheme were successful, the Department of Agriculture has revealed.
A total of 168 applications were received for the scheme, which was introduced in 2017 to compensate growers for a losses incurred during the 2016 harvest.
Sixty applications were initially rejected on the grounds of not meeting the criteria (minimum loss of 30%) or not having the required information.
The scheme has so far paid out over €390,000 to 88 growers.
In addition there are a further 21 outstanding cases still pending, with the Department of Agriculture requiring more information in order to process those applications.
