COMEDY

Pat Shortt: October 27: Tipperary is proud to welcome home their very own Pat Shortt, with his brand new stage show called ‘Hey!’ Following his sell-out successes of ‘The Hall’, ‘Selfie’ and ‘How’s Tings?’, Shortt has proven himself as one of Ireland’s best-loved comedians and is ready to take to the road once again with his latest quirky look at Irish life. Featuring all new material and sketches, this new is a rogue’s gallery of oddball characters, bizarre situations and even a song, or two. See www.thesourceartscentre.ie.

THEATRE

Holy Mary: 1 November: Limerick’s Limetree Theatre plays host to ‘Holy Mary’, this Thursday night. The story of two little girls on the days leading up to their First Holy Communion is both funny and heart wrenching. Mary and Majella have been mortal enemies since baby infants, and things have gotten even worse since Mary’s daddy moved in with Majella’s mammy. The characters are very real and very funny. The cast of two that play two mothers, a benevolent priest, a patient teacher, a misguided father and two cheeky and lovable nine-year olds, are sure to warm your heart. See www.limetreetheatre.ie

MUSIC

Roller Trio presented by Music Network: 27 October: Expect plenty of punchy grooves, high octane technicality and deceptively catchy riffs as the Roller Trio roar into Newbridge, this Saturday night. This Leeds-based trio waste no time in getting heads bobbing with their idiosyncratic blend of pin-tight beats, cool melodies and juddering stop-start motifs. Hailed as “the new sound of UK jazz” by DJ Gilles Peterson, Roller Trio have an energy that seduces critics and fans alike. See www.riverbank.ie

Hugh Tinny Anniversary Tour: 1 November: Irish pianist Hugh Tinney will celebrate his upcoming 60th birthday with a solo recital in 12 venues around Ireland. Kicking off the celebrations at Cork’s Stack Theatre, Tinney’s programme honours core piano composers – Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert. It also brings together two outstanding present-day composers, Belfast-born Ian Wilson and the internationally-celebrated British composer Thomas Adès. For more information, visit www.hughtinney.com

FILM

Katie: 26 October: This fascinating sport documentary film follows none other than the Irish champion boxer Katie Taylor, as she tries to rekindle her career following a year of setbacks. This will be a rare opportunity to see what really goes on in the life of the notoriously private champion. Taylor has won six amateur European championships, five world amateur championships and most famously, an Olympic Gold Medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games. But after her shock defeat at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Irish athlete’s life was different. See www.entertainment.ie for more reviews and sneak peeks.
