DRIFT away to the Schull Regatta in Cork this weekend. On Saturday 11 August and Sunday 12 August, Schull welcomes visitors from all over Ireland to enjoy the 134-year-old regatta event. Once a fierce and rival-filled battle between the local fleet of fishing yawls and the visitors from around Cork, it was relaunched in 2014 as an annual event, to be enjoyed by all the family for free. From crab fishing and swimming races, to street music, an animal roadshow and the Ballingeary piper band, Schull Regatta has it all. The heart of the action, though, centres on the more traditional events: a tug-of-war, the two-oar dinghy races, net mending and the climbing of the greasy pole, while kids get to enjoy a street parade and bouncy castle. Find Schull Regatta on Facebook for more details.
