The Irish Vendéen Sheep Society held its annual premier show and sale in Roscommon last Saturday. Topping the sale was the overall champion from John Lynch, Ballinascraw, Ballinalee, Co Longford, which went on to sell for €1,500 to new breeders David McCabe and Eileen Foster Felix, Co Cavan.

Bred from French AI B7318 and a French-bred dam, the champion was also first-prizewinner at Cillin Hill and first prize all-Ireland ram lamb at Athlone Agricultural Show.

The second-highest price also went to John Lynch for the champion replacement index ram lamb. This one, bred from the same AI, sold for €1,100 to Shay Kennedy, Co Waterford.

Third-highest price also went to the Lynch family for a homebred lamb which sold for €900 to Alan Crowe, Co Meath.

Clearance rate for the sale hit close to 80%, with the majority of lambs present making between €500 and €700.
