Kilkenny Macra’s annual hurling and camogie blitz takes place this weekend on Saturday 23 April in St Kieran’s College. Sign-in is at 10.30am and participants are asked to remember to bring their helmet and hurl. For more information, contact Mary Brennan on 087-7634524.
On Friday 29 April, the place to be is The Big Wheel as Callan Macra will host a table quiz filled with plenty of fun and laughter. The night is kindly being sponsored by JJ Burke Agri and Philip Lynch Haulage with all proceeds going towards the renovation of the much loved Callan Macra hall. The night will kick off at 8.30pm with teams of 4 costing €20. There will be a raffle with plenty of prizes to be won.
Treble R Macra will host its monthly book club on Tuesday 3 May in Doheny & Nesbitt, Baggot Street, Dublin. The book for May is Fallen by Lia Mills. This is Dublin’s One City, One Book 2016 choice. One City, One Book is an award-winning Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Public Libraries, which encourages everyone to read a book connected with the capital city in April each year. Mitchelstown Macra invites you to its initiative to highlight mental health in the rural community. On Wednesday 4 May in Corrin Mart Event Centre, Fermoy, a screening on the film Pilgrim Hill will take place. The film highlights a raw and real perspective of rural isolation. It shows the pressures the farmer faces every day, not alone in running a farm, but also the effects of social isolation. This event is in conjunction with First Fortnight. Following the film, guest speakers will address the crowd. Entry is free. Email mitchelstown.macra@gmail.com for details.
