This year the Iverk Show cattle committee is planning a change to the Maid of Glanbia dairy heifer class. Given the backlash from factories about the quality of dairy calf available, organisers hope to attract a stronger type of animal which will have the ability to produce a better type calf when they calf down. It’s hoped that a more dual-purpose type of heifer will be put up by informed judges, ones which can produce these better calves but also still produce plenty of milk.

Weanling bull calf class

The other big change in the dairy section is the reintroduction of the weanling bull calf any dairy breed. Once again a square type of animal is necessary to produce a decent calf. Dairy breeds such as Friesian, Shorthorn, Mountbelliarde and Brown Swiss are all eligible. This class comes with a strong prize fund with the first prize-winner taking home €300, second collecting €200 and third securing €100.
