Numbers are still very small down in this part of the country. Farmers have been holding back on selling stock until demand increases. In the past few days, I have got more enquiries from people thinking of selling stock, so that would show signs that numbers are starting to increase. Cow numbers are quiet and the trade is reasonably good. There are plenty of buyers out there for cows, albeit at a price. Parlour cows are selling mainly for about €1/kg, with plainer lots making €50 back from the weight. Friesian cows carrying flesh are still a good trade, with those from 700kg to 750kg selling from €950 to €1,000.
