Friday’s sale in Donegal saw a good trade for fat cattle, with top prices being paid for well-fleshed heifers.

There was a good entry of quality continental types and buyers were very active for these more stylish types.

This September 2018-born Limousin weighed 682kg and sold for €1,610 (€2.36/kg).

Prices exceeded the €2.80/kg mark on a number of occasions, with a top price of €1,680 being paid for a September 2018-born Belgian Blue weighing 592kg (€2.82/kg).

A more general run of €2.35/kg to €2.50/kg was on offer for good-quality types, while plainer types were back around the €2.00/kg to €2.15/kg mark.

Bullocks

There was a smaller entry of bullocks and they were a steadier trade, with heavier types moving for between €2.20/kg and €2.35/kg in the main.

This February 2020-born Belgian Blue weighed 492kg and sold for €1130 (€2.30/kg).

Good-quality weanlings around 380kg to 400kg were breaching the €1,000 mark without an issue, while plainer types of those weighing around 320kg to 350kg were making around the €800 to €850/head mark.
