The powerful Aultside Meanmachine from Garry Patterson led the way in Carlisle on Saturday, claiming a 65,000gns bid from Haltcliffe and Procter farms. Having come out as junior and overall champion the previous day in the pre-sale show, the 18-month-old Wilodge Cerberus son continued his run of form into the sales ring. Meanmachine is a full brother to Aultside Hulk, the May 2014 55,000gns sale-topper who now resides at Dan Tynan’s Ardea/Elite herd in Co Laois.

Securing a bid of 30,000gns was the first prize winning Gunnerfleet Mongo from the Handley family. This bull was sired by Ampertaine Gigolo and out of the herd’s top cow Gunnerfleet Ilocks, who had previously produced bulls to 22,000gns. Successful bidder of the young bull was A Renton and H Redden.

Wilodge Limousin purchased their next stock bull at 28,000gns. This came in the form of Mr Stewarts Lenagh Morpheus. This very stylish September 2016-born bull sees Plumtree Fantastic and Broadmeadows Cannon in the lineage.

Next best and top of the Northern Ireland lots was Kieran McCrory’s Bernish Memphis, who traded at 22,000gns. Sired by the 23,000gns Fairywater Haig, Memphis is out of show winning Ampertaine Elgin daughter Bernish Julifortune. Successful bidders in a joint purchase was Messrs Booth and Calogale Beef Semen Sales.

The sale was strong throughout with a particularly good trade for the junior bulls. In all, 104 bulls sold to represent an 87% clearance.

Averages settled at £7,540, up £871 on the year and over £1,900 up on the same sale two years ago. As previously mentioned, the junior bulls were met with a great trade that saw 28 sell to average nearly £11,000.
