Meath Man Derek Healy has won this year's final of the Macra na Feirme All-Ireland Welding competition.

The Trim Macra man took the top spot at the final in the Cork Training Centre in Bishopstown last Friday. 14 competitors from Macra clubs all over the country battling it out for the prize of a welder.

Jeremiah Coakley, Kilmeen Macra, Carbey was awarded 2nd place. In 3rd place was Shane Caulfield from Cushinstown Macra, Wexford.

The competition involved a written theory test followed by practical welding tasks.

Kieran O’Dowd, Macra National President, said: "Congratulations to all the finalists who demonstrated a very high level of skill”.
