Q1 When did you set up your business and why?
I launched Wild Paper Studio in September 2021. The idea of creating luxury, illustrated stationery and greeting cards was born out of the pandemic.
During this period of social isolation and communication conducted through screens, the sense of personal connection cultivated by a handwritten note felt even more important.
I wanted to create a more personal, uniquely Irish collection of seasonal stationery and paper goods that would resonate and encourage handwritten correspondence and connection as a creative reprieve from email.
Q2 Can you explain your process?
The design process starts with outline sketches of the initial theme, which draw inspiration from the month and the changes in seasons. The illustrations can range from garden birds, gardening and wildlife to dainty wildflowers, baking and bees.
The final version of the design is sketched before being painted by hand in delicate, detailed watercolours and converted into cards, stationery and prints. All items are designed, printed and packaged entirely in Ireland using recycled paper where possible and each card is wrapped individually in plastic-free packaging.
Q3 What is your best seller?
Our monthly stationery subscription box is our best seller. Each month, subscribers receive a five-six item set of themed stationery, including greeting cards, letter writing paper, sticker sets, gift tags, mini prints, and notecards.
Subscribers enjoy their subscription box as a surprise in the post every month and find it to be a great way to develop a collection of stationery and cards for all occasions. Writing sets and bookmarks are also popular items.
Q4 What is it about your business that brings you joy?
I enjoy illustrating and developing an idea from concept to a final physical product to be used and enjoyed. It is always a pleasure interacting with customers and hearing their feedback is always a joy.
Q 5 What are your hopes for 2022?
I hope to expand the existing collections of stationery and develop other illustrated product ranges, such as mugs and notebooks, that are both beautiful and functional.
Q6 What advice would you give to another start-up business?
The best way to learn is by experience, so simply start. You may make mistakes, be patient with yourself, and keep going.
