The Glanbia grain prices show a real commitment to their grain supplier members, according to IFA grain committee chair Mark Browne.

“The Glanbia supplier base was particularly hard-hit by the weather issues this season so it was vital that the company returned prices which supported these growers,” he said.

Browne called on all co-ops and grain buyers to show a similar commitment to the sustainability of the Irish tillage sector.

Value

In contrast, the Irish Grain Growers Group has said that harvest grain prices do not reflect the true value of fully traceable locally sourced Irish grain that contains no genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

“Irish grain must be seen in a new light by those buying Irish tillage farmers’ grain in this new green age evolving,” it said.
