The Moocall team will be on hand at this year’s Ploughing with a number of special offers for attendees. Its newest product, Moocall HEAT, will be on special offer, with €200 off.

Moocall HEAT is a heat detection system with a difference. Most heat detection methods involve looking at the cow to try to determine when the cow is in heat.

Monitor

Moocall founder Niall Austin said: “Moocall HEAT is different and uses nature to its advantage and monitors the bull’s behaviour and his interaction with cows. Think of it like a chin ball for the 21st century. It doesn’t need to be monitored or adjusted, and sends the information straight to a farmer’s phone via SMS or the Moocall Breedmanager app.”

The new sensor operates much like your mobile phone and can work anywhere in the world with a 3G or 2G GSM signal.

Moocall HEAT measures bull and cow interaction over time to build up a picture of the animals in the field.

Based on frequency of interaction over time, alongside bull activity and mounting behaviour, it can accurately detect which cow is in her standing heat and alert the farmer via SMS message.

Niall says the biggest benefits they’ve heard from farmers have been its labour-saving, gives instant concise data and opens the door to AI, particularly in beef herds.

Tullamore Farm has been using the product on 100 head of cows, for which it achieved an 88% submission rate after six weeks. However, this has been seen to go as high as 96% on some farms.

The Moocall stand will also be offering a discount on its calving sensor, which has been on the market for a number of years now. Here, the company is offering €29 off every device, with a free Moocall bodywarmer also on offer for new customers. This year, the Moocall will be at stand 126.
