Nobber village in Co Meath is to host its inaugural livestock show as part of an extended offering to its annual fair day.
Nobber’s traditional fair day will take place on 19 May with the village closed to traffic to facilitate activities such as the livestock show, a sheep-shearing competition and home industries.
In what will be one of the earliest livestock shows of the year, there will be classes for both cattle and sheep.
Classes
The cattle section will be divided between 13 classes including pedigree cattle, commercial cattle and handlers under the age of 18. Each class will have a prize fund of €150.
There will be pedigree classes for bulls and heifers under 12 months across Simmental, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin and Angus breeds.
An overall champion and reserve champion of the show will also be selected.
In the sheep section, there will be nine classes.
There will be pedigree classes for Texel, Suffolk and Charolais hogget ewes and rams. This will be followed by a class for non-pedigree hogget ewes and rams.
Spring lamb classes will also be ran for both pedigree and non-pedigree breeds. Each class will have a prize fund of €100.
Entries to all classes are open until 10 May.
