Emma Harper MSP is launching a Members Bill in Holyrood aimed at tackling sheep worrying.

Speaking at a National Sheep Association (NSA) reception in parliament the SNP member said she plans to consult with stakeholders over the summer on the details of the Bill as a first step.

“Lambs and sheep should be protected,” said Harper. “I hope to raise awareness of the problem. The Cabinet Secretary Fergus Ewing is not opposed to the Bill.” It is thought that the Bill will take at least a year to come into place.

Also speaking at the event, Scottish NSA chair John Fyall gave a positive talk calling for increased lamb consumption, Government support for active sheep farmers and more to be slaughtered in Scotland eligible for the Scotch label.

Fyall also used his speech to remind farmers eligible for fallenstock support scheme compensation to claim before the deadline of 31 May. Farmers should call 01335 32001 for details.
