Farmers anxious to manage stocking numbers ahead of winter housing can now check their compliance status with nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) regulations from January to October 2018, the Department of Agriculture has advised.

N and P statements including October figures are now available on the Agfood.ie website, the Department announced this Monday.

The coming weeks will be crucial for farmers close to the annual limits of 170kg N/ha, or 250kg N/ha on derogation farms.

Nitrates reminder

The Department also issued a reminder that nitrates records for the movement of organic fertiliser, temporary movement of animals during the year or short-term rental grazing agreements must be submitted by 31 December.

Completed records 3, 4, and 5 forms should be e-mailed to nitrates@agriculture.gov.ie or posted to Nitrates Section, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Johnstown Castle Estate, Co Wexford.

The Department will take any records received before the deadline into account when calculating the nitrate levels for 2018, which is particularly important for derogation farmers.
