The National Dairy Show, an event that normally brings together the dairy farming community at the Green Glens Arena in Co Cork, will be held online for 2020.

Over the last 38 years, the show has developed a reputation as the premier indoor agricultural event in Ireland, as well as the meeting place for dairy farmers and businesses.

The event has also established a reputation for introducing new innovations and technology to Irish dairy farmers, as highlighted by its annual National Dairy Innovation Awards.

The cancellation of the usual show due to COVID-19 restrictions now moves attention to an ambitious and innovative plan, using the latest technology and expertise in virtual events to roll out the event for the Irish dairy sector.

Virtual show

The virtual show will be held over two evenings on 28 and 29 October and will include the National Dairy Innovation Awards presentation, expert panels and other aspects of the usual show.

The award highlights a new product or service which has been launched in the past 12 months that has revolutionised some aspects of dairy farming. The entries will be divided into three categories: engineering, technology and science. Each category winner will go forward to try win the overall prize.

The 2020 running of the National Dairy Innovation Awards will be the ninth edition of the awards, which was won last year by Limerick-based Anuland.

The roll of honour over the last eight years shows diverse winners from start-ups to multinationals claiming the title.

This diversity is highlighted with Devenish Nutrition claiming the title in 2015, while start-up AgTech Grasshopper claimed the overall award the following year.

The awards are judged on the innovative aspects of the product or service in relation to dairy farming, its practicality in assisting with common dairy farming chores or problems and also the presentation and promotion of the product or service.
